How to close lips in Photoshop

Hello everyone, surely each photographer sometimes has problems shooting outdoors and in post-production it is not as good as accidentally opening his mouth. Don't worry, the following tips will help you fix that in post.

How to close lips in Photoshop

2. Steps:

  • Step 1: Open the file to edit in Photoshop.
  • Step 2: Duplicate the layer with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + J or drag the layer to the New layer icon in the right corner. Then hide the original layer.
  • Step 3: Go to the toolbar and choose Polygonal Lasso Tool ( L ) to make a selection. You can choose any other tool in Photoshop to make a selection.
  • Step 4: Select around the lips area then press Ctrl + J to copy the selection to a new layer.
  • Step 5: Continue using the tool to create a circle around the inside of the lips area. Then press Delete .
  • Step 6: Still using the selection tool, circle the upper lip. Then press Ctrl + Shift + J to cut the selection into a new layer (it's not like Ctrl + J is copy ).
  • Step 7: Select the upper lip layer, go to Edit > Puppet Warp .
  • Key 4 points fix the upper lip and key a point on the top of the lips to lower the lip area. Continue keying to add a few more natural edits.
  • Step 8: Continue to select the lower lip layer and do the same but push up to fit the upper lip.
  • Step 9: Still have the lower lip layer selected then go to Filter > Liquify . Adjust parameters at Show Backdrop :
    • Use : is the upper lip layer.
    • Mode: In Front
    • Opacity : 85 (or something that makes it easy to distinguish between the upper and lower lips).
  • Brush Tool Options : Size is large enough to adjust the lower lip contour naturally.
  • Step 10: Create a Layer Mask on the upper lip and lower lip layer respectively, then use the brush to erase the black edges and the overlap between the lips.
  • Step 11: To increase the naturalness, create a new layer on top of the lower lip layer then choose Brush with the Fill color as the darkest color on the lips. Reduce the opacity and brush size then paint the area between the lips.
  • Step 12: Select Layer Masks of upper lip and lower lip respectively then use brush tool to erase the outer skin area.
